Women In PR Summit – Miami By: Mena Wright Say Yes Productions

“Who Run the World…..Women in the PR” This year’s first annual Women in PR Summit was held at the extraordinary Epic Hotel in Miami Florida. Women from all over the United States traveled to sunny Miami to hear some of the best in the business speak about what it meant to be a “Woman in PR”. The summit was held over 3 days starting with a cocktail reception with all the “bells and whistles”. Guests were immediately made to feel welcome as they were greeted with mouth watering mojitos and tasty treats. The following day guests were invited to attend the 8 hour seminar which consisted of several panelists from different sectors of the public relations industry. Each panelist spoke about their individual experiences in the field, from surviving in PR as a woman, lessons learned, branding, trends, finding clients, legalities and social media. Speakers included the motivating Latonya Story of LPS Consulting PR (www.lpsconsultingpr.com); corporate public relations specialist, Julia Wakefield of Schwartz Media; management and branding expert, Maricarmen Lopez of MCL Media; PR extraordinaire EricaLane of The Kartel Company (www.thekartelco.com); the enlightening Krystle Colman of Midori Star Media; the lovely ladies of Social Esquire and seasoned PR vet Yvette Harris from Harris Public Relations. The group was organized by “tell it like it is” PR expert – Anje Collins who runs the Women in PR organization (www.womeninpr.org). The summit ended with a beautiful brunch, manicures, massages (courtesy of ELF- Events which specializes in luxury spa events) and more motivating and inspirational words by Latonya Story. This was definitely an event filled with beautiful women from all walks of life that are determined to make a difference in the world of PR. I definitely left the summit with some memorable quotes & tips that I will take with me in my journey as an entrepreneur. Some that stand out are: “Whatever price I asked of Life, Life would have paid” – Latonya Story. “Deem yourself an expert, research and build your brand and bring clients to you” – EricaLane. “Use hash tags in social media to bring us together and to build communities” – Stephanie Ruiz, General Motors and “Hire people that can eventually run your business” – EricaLane… make sure you have them sign a non-compete! Women coming together to support each other in any business is a necessity. The Woman in PR Summit does just that. You leave feeling motivated, inspired and uplifted with a new network of sisters who like-minded and supportive. We are excited for the upcoming event and summits that will be held in the near future.
